Eating disorder workshops with onlinevents

You might have seen the announcement on my social media platforms that I have an exciting collaboration with Onlinevents coming up; starting on Monday 28th September 2020, I will be delivering an ONLINE Eating Disorder Workshop series which is collectively titled “Smashing Stereotypes, stigma and scales: An introduction to Eating Disorders”.

In the past 24 hours I have had a few people making enquiries about the details of the sessions because they were finding the Eventbrite information a little unclear.  I wanted to make a one-stop blog post of information to answer these questions.  If I get any further questions, or have any revised information I will update this post accordingly and also mention it on my social media.

So, lets get into it….

Smashing Stereotypes, stigma and scales: An introduction to Eating Disorders” is a FOUR PART (10 hour) workshop series.  Each session is 2.5hours in length and the sessions will be held online (via zoom) and hosted by Onlinevents.  I will be delivering the vast majority of the sessions, but will also be assisted by my wonderful colleague Yvonne.

The sessions are as follows:

Part 1 – Eating Disorders: Shapes, Sizes & Stereotypes.

In this session we will introduce you to the topic of Eating Disorders and explore the many different types of presentation; smashing stereotypes by providing you with facts, exploring labels, and challenging what you think you already know about this topic.

Part 2 – Eating Disorders: Let’s Talk About Risk.

In session 2 we will take an appropriately measured look at the risks related to Eating Disorders, and to consider working with those affected as part of your own practice.  Let’s smash the weighing scales and build your confidence in your ability to make informed and safe decisions.

Part 3 – Eating Disorders: Denial, Secrecy and Lies.

Session 3 will be an opportunity for you to think and learn about how and why Eating Disorders might present as challenging conditions to work with; smashing the stigma often placed upon such clients as being difficult to work with and resistant to change.  Let’s break down some of our biases.

Part 4 – Eating Disorders: Recovery and the Lived Experience.

In this final session you will learn about recovery and exactly what it might be like to travel on this journey of illness and recovery.  We will present you with a detailed ‘lived-experience’ story and you will even have the opportunity to ask questions about what illness and recovery FEEL like – moving away from textbook learning and towards being immersed in the real experience.  Weighing scales do not define the struggle!

You will see over on the Eventbrite page/s that collectively this  workshop series is actually a prerequisite for our *DRUMROLL PLEASE*…..Certificate in Understanding Eating Disorders which we hope to be bringing to you in 2021.  (I will bring you more information on this when it is available.)

Each of these upcoming sessions can be taken as standalone workshops – pick and choose what you would like to learn; attend 1, 2, 3 or ALL of them!  However, for the best experience I would encourage you to attend the sessions in sequential order.  So, maybe you just want to attend Part 1, or Parts 1 and 2 – whatever meets your needs and interests.

Just to make you aware these sessions will NOT be recorded, and will not form part of the Onlinevents library.

To facilitate the access to CPD education, Onlinevents are currently offering something really exciting and that is their ‘radical inclusion policy’ which essentially means you can self-select a fee that meets your budget and therefore have access to training you might otherwise not be able to afford.  Onlinevents have suggested a ballpark figure of £20 per session (so, £80 for the full workshop series).  However if this is beyond your budget you can pay less or, if able to do so, support the learning of others (as this type of offer can only continue while it is financially viable) by paying a little more.

The first dates available for attending the workshops are as follows:-

Part 1 – Monday 28th September 2020 – 1:00 to 3:30PM (booking link: CLICK HERE)

Part 2 – Monday 5th October 2020 – 1:00 to 3:30PM (booking link: CLICK HERE)

Part 3 – Monday 12th October 2020 – 1:00 to 3:30PM (booking link: CLICK HERE)

Part 4 – Monday 19th October 2020 – 1:00 to 3:30PM (booking link: CLICK HERE)

We DEFINIATELY plan to be running the workshops again later in the year so if you want to attend all four parts but can’t make one of these dates then don’t worry – you’ll be able to catch it next time.  Or, if you so wish you can even book to come on a repeat of a session if your learning style would result in that being helpful – certainly not something you’d usually be able to do if you had to travel miles to an event but totally feasible when working online!

These sessions will be similar to one of my old ‘in person’ workshops (which we often referred to as ‘Workshop 1’.)  Between 2015 and 2019 they were publicly available as ‘Workshop 1 – Eating Disorders: Towards a Greater Understanding’.  However, they have now been revamped, updated, and made suitable for the online platform.

I think that the ‘radical inclusion policy’ also makes this a great way to revisit and refresh learning achieved as a previous attendee, without having to “break the bank”.

As a result of COVID-19 this is currently the only way to access such a workshop delivered by me.  I will not be delivering any ‘In Person’ workshops any time soon; certainly not in 2020, and probably not in 2021 either.  I trust that for anyone that this disappoints, you will understand that this is being done to protect all of us – you, Yvonne, myself and those with whom we come into contact.

I think this has covered all the questions thus far but please feel free to comment below if you have anything else with which I might be able to help.

Hey Emma, we dont have any confirmed plans yet. However a couple of people have asked so it is something i will certainly add to the ideas board. We will soon be starting a new email subscription list so that we can inform people of things they are interested in. If you might like to go on such a list please send me an email. We hope to launch in October time. 🙂

    Hello

I’d definitely be interested in future ED training, ideally at the weekend or evenings.
